A pair of bedheads made for a local client from a lovely piece of burr elm. The brief was to keep as much of the natural shape of the board as possible. This particular board, about 50mm thick, had 'cupped' during the drying process creating a convex curve on the face, so making each finished piece a comfortable shape to lean on while sitting up in bed. The oiled finish brings out the warmth and wonderful depth of figure that is the hallmark of elm. |
