The PeopleThe people featured in this site were all involved in the "Woods Work" project. Woods Work originated from an idea by the Forestry for People Panel, which was set up to advise Forestry Commission Scotland. It was funded by them and also by Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. It ran from 2003 to March 2006. Originally, Woods Work worked only through 3 community woodlands in Galloway , Argyll and Sutherland but over the 3 years it also began to work with individuals. The aim was to help create forest based jobs and to learn more about how these jobs could be created, thereby contributing to fragile rural economies. These jobs could come through working with wood, other forest products or the forest itself through recreation. In Argyll, this led to meeting up with furniture makers, sculptors, boat builders, joiners, turners, basket weavers, stick makers and story tellers. All make fantastic, high quality products or services but often they live in out of the way places where few visitors pass by. Hence the website ! The woodworkers involved in this site are:
